Day 1: Sydney to Hanoi
Afternoon departure with Vietnam Airlines. Upon our evening arrival we will be met by our local guide and transferred to our hotel.

Hotel: Silk Path Hotel (Premium Deluxe) for 2 nights

Day 2: Hanoi
A full day exploring the architecture and history of Hanoi. In the morning, visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, his former residence, the One Pillar Pagoda and the Temple of Literature. In the afternoon, visit the Hoa Lo Prison, the Lake of Restored Sword, Ngoc Son Temple and the Old Quarter. We`ll also take an exhilarating one hour cyclo ride through the Old Quarter. In the evening enjoy a welcome dinner at a restaurant overlooking the lake B,L,D

Day 3: Hanoi–Ha Long Bay
Drive through rice paddy fields to Ha Long Bay where we board a junk for a cruise among the hundreds of islets of Ha Long Bay while enjoying lunch. Drop anchor in the late evening for an overnight stay among the dramatic limestone peaks rising out of the sea. B,L,D

Day 4: Halong Bay Cruise
More Halong Bay cruising, discovering the many unique sights of this World Heritage site. B,L,D

Day 5: Halong Bay-Hanoi-Danang–Hoi An
After breakfast, disembark, transfer to Hanoi then fly to Danang and transfer to charming Hoi An. B

Hotel: Boutique Hoi An (Superior room) for 3 nights

Day 6: Hoi An
This morning we head to the local markets to pick up fresh produce prior to joining our class at the Red Bridge cooking school. Enjoy the dishes we have just prepared. Afterwards we take a walking tour of the Old Quarter visiting ancient merchants’ houses, a Hokkien temple and the 400-year-old Japanese Covered Bridge. Day 7: Hoi An–Fisherman and waterways.
We will transfer to a local fishing village where we learn about the daily life of Vietnamese fishermen, their families and community. Then board the Hoi An Eco-Tour boat cruising the Cua Dai river witnessing fishing activities as well as the art of catching fish by using local round nets. Enjoy more fun by paddling unique Vietnamese bamboo basket boats and joining in a basket boat race on the river. Afterwards share a cold beer/soft drink with a traditional fisherman’s meal. B,L

Day 8: Hoi An–Danang–Saigon
After breakfast transfer to Danang airport for our flight to Saigon. On arrival transfer to our city hotel. B

Day 9: Saigon
Half-day city walking tour visiting the Reunification Palace (photo stop), Notre Dame Cathedral, Central Post Office, Chinatown and Thien Hau Temple or the Quan Am Pagoda. The afternoon is at leisure. A visit to the War Remnants Museum provides a startling reminder of the futility of war. B

Day 10: Saigon
Cu Chi tunnels (1/2 Day morning tour). Drive to the extraordinary tunnel complex outside Saigon. During the war for  independence, Viet Cong guerrillas built the labyrinth of narrow tunnels virtually underneath U.S. bases, using them to hide during bombing raids and to stage surprise attacks. The rest of day is at leisure. B

Day 11: Saigon–Mekong River Cruise
Transfer the Sofitel Plaza hotel in Saigon for our morning transfer to My Tho, located 70 kilometres away. We have a stop at the Cholon Market and visit a lacquer factory enroute. Arrival in My Tho and board the RV MEKONG PRESTIGE II. Our Welcome Dinner features a traditional Music Show. B,L,D

Day 12: Mekong River Cruise

Arrival at Cai Be in the morning. After breakfast we take a morning junk trip around Cai Be to visit a floating market and go ashore to see the French Gothic Cathedral. Take a stroll along the river bank and visit a local manufacturer producing rice paper and coconut sweets. Lunch onboard. Cruise past Vinh Long Province to arrive at Sa Dec for a walk where we see the house of Marguerite’s Chinese Lover. The house is a small museum of “The Lover”. Visit a Caodaist Temple and stroll through the colourful local market. B,L,D

Day 13: Mekong River Cruise
Morning arrival at Tan Chau, a remote town on the main Mekong River. After breakfast, transfer on small boats to visit a fishing farm. Go ashore to visit a local workshop producing woven mats then a short walk to visit a silk weaving workshop. A rickshaw ride rounds off our visit. Depart for the Cambodian border. Evening cruise up the broad Mekong River to Phnom Penh. B,L,D

Day 14: Mekong River Cruise
Today we reach Phnom Penh. The capital city of Cambodia still retains its old French colonial  architecture in riverside streets. Visit the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda. Lunch on board. Afternoon excursion to the former High School, S21, converted to a detention centre under the Red Khmer’s rule between 1975-1979. Follow with a visit to Wat Phnom after which the city was named. Dinner on board with a traditional Khmer Apsara Dancing Show. B,L,D

Day 15: Mekong River Cruise

Early morning sailing from Phnom Penh to Chong Koh or Oknathey (both located in Silk Island). Visit this silk weaving village for a morning walk and a visit to the local workshop. The excursion includes a visit to a Pagoda and a meeting in a primary school. Cruise past the Mekong’s timeless villages and river life with extensive fishing activities. Return to Phnom Penh, and afternoon at leisure. B,L,D

Day 16: Mekong River Cruise

Morning journey upriver heading towards Oudong. Coach excursion to Oudong, the former Cambodian capital, between 1618-1866, Visit the Vipassana Dhura Pagoda, located at the foot of a hill on the top of which were erected numerous Stupas dating of the last Khmer Kings. This is a place of meditation for Buddhist Monks. Next we visit Kampong Tralach, and see the charming Vihara of Wat Kampong Leu Pagoda dating back to the last century with it`s beautiful wall paintings. Return to the ship by ox-drawn carriage. B,L,D

Day 17: Mekong River Cruise

Morning sailing onTonle Sap River, connecting the Mekong River to Tonle Lake. Arrive at Kampong  Chhnang, approximately 90 km from Phnom Penh. This is a busy rural port town with bustling markets. Then board local boats to visit the authentic floating village. The life of the population is connected to the river with locals using the canal system to crisscross the town. B,L,D

Day 18: Disembark Mekong River Cruise

We cross the lake early in the morning* (Please note that when there is low water, the transfer to Siem Reap will be made by coach or speed boat). The great lake dominates Cambodia and is over 150 km in length, with interesting and varied bird life resulting from the varied water levels. Disembarkation after breakfast and transfer to Siem Reap.

Day 19: Siem Reap
Explore the wonder of Angkor. This morning visit Ankor Thom, Bayon, the Elephant Terrace and Leper King. Also visit Ta Prohm temple enveloped in a labyrinth of jungle. In the afternoon, visit the extraordinary Angkor Wat temple complex. B

Day 20: Siem Reap
This morning visit Banteay Srei and Artisan D’angkor, a unique local artistry assembly before enjoying a free afternoon with time for shopping or a beer on the famous Pub St. B

Day 21: Depart Siem Reap
After breakfast check out. Our day is at leisure to relax around the hotel pool before our late afternoon transfer to the airport. Fly with Vietnam Airlines via Saigon and connect with our overnight flight to Sydney.
